What does anyone think of Bluesky Social?
Main Post:
What kinds of communities does it have, how toxic are the users, or any other observations?
Top Comment: It's fine. I think it's the best twitter replacement after quitting twitter. But quitting twitter helped me realized how little I need a thing like twitter in my life anyway.
Blue Sky?
Main Post:
Hi.... I am noticing a huge push of individuals on instagram posting their Blue Sky accounts to their audiences and saying something along the lines of "....heading to bluesky.... Unsure how posting will shift in the future."
Is Bluesky here to stay? Is it being used as an alternative to instagram and not just twitter or threads? Would you use it to appeal to your audience as a content creator / entrepreneur / business?
Thank you in advance for any insights. Any and all information is appreciated. I was never active on twitter or similar platforms so this feels foreign.

Thoughts on BlueSky
Main Post:
I keep seeing posts about BlueSky (the Twitter alternative) taking off now and how it's much better than X and "feels like Twitter before Elon". I am genuinely curious what people's thoughts on it are and what their motivations are for joining. X is undoubtedly worse than Twitter, but I think that's taking a rose-tinted view of Twitter, because it was also a toxic dumpster fire. It was the original Twitter that helped Trump's rise to the presidency. It was also the original Twitter that helped spread deadly lies about COVID and vaccines.
When Elon took over and Twitter died I found it to be a relief. One less social media site in my life, which is not a bad thing in my eyes. I even took it as an opportunity to delete my original Reddit account which also had drifted towards being a toxic social media in my life.
So my question to all of you is, why? Why should I or anyone join BlueSky? Do people feel that it contributes positively to their life and wellbeing? Or does it feel like a chore? Do we even need/want more social media sites? And if we do, what do people actually want in their social media sites?
I personally don't think I want to join another social media website. I have Instagram and enjoy seeing things from people I like. I have Facebook because I'm from a time when we wore onions on our belts because that was the in thing at the time. And I have a Reddit account for following a very select few Subreddits that have meaningful discussions happening.
What are people's thoughts?
Top Comment: I enjoy it, people can create lists that lump users into it so you can mass ban them. For instance I have it set to auto block every account that has crypto stuff in their profile because most of them are scammers. I have another list that shows everyone who posts about fighting games so I can follow them or see what they’re all talking about
What made BlueSky become so popular?
Main Post:
I don't keep up with new social media platforms and at first I thought BlueSky was just a platform that allows non-logged in users to view Twitter/X. I found out recently that it's a completely different platform.
What made this social media platform so popular? It was released what? Like a few years ago? And how does it compare to Twitter?
Top Comment: A big chunk of it is that it is almost a one-for-one Twitter clone before Musk started messing with it. So when people were looking to get out from under Musk's control it was the closest available option. It's also operated by a Public Benefit Corporation, using an open source protocol. Which reduces (although absolutely doesn't eliminate) the probability of future enshitification. But it has several feature which allow the user more control of their experience, which a lot of people like. First is the absence of algorithmic additions to the default feed. Meaning you don't see what you don't follow unless you go looking for it. 2nd is the "nuclear block". If you block an account, it eliminates all interaction with them. It breaks threads, and hides quoted posts. By default your posts can still be seen if they log out, but at least they can't post at you. And 3rd is the inclusion of 3rd party lists. For following, for blocking, and for moderation. Which allows you to select content you want to see without having to track down every person yourself, but without the algorithim force feeding you content you "might like". It's not perfect, and people make exploitative lists, but it helps a lot.
How Bluesky, Alternative to X and Facebook, Is Handling Explosive Growth

Top Comment: I’m jaded with social media. Sure it will be cool at first... but then the ads start creeping in making the platform unusable. Getting close to deleting Reddit for the same reason at this point.
Are we leaving Instagram and going to BlueSky? Thoughts?
Main Post:
I left twitter years ago. Now I’m thinking about abandoning the meta ship. Does anyone use BlueSky? Or is social media in its decline?
Top Comment: Honestly, with the exception of Reddit, I’m done with social media. I deleted IG, FB and Twitter a long time ago and it’s been a relief. Never had TikTok or Snap.

Is it worth posting on Bluesky?
Main Post:
I have an Instagram account with around 300 followers. It's not much, but I try to post regularly twice a week, and most of my efforts go to that platform.
I also post weekly on Cara, Tumblr and Reddit, but my main focus is Instagram. A few years ago I used to post on Twitter, but since I already had a lot going on and it was the least engaging platform for me, I decided to quit. I am aware that Bluesky is growing considerably, but is it worth it for an art account?
Top Comment: Yup; that's where most of my customers come from nowadays. It has totally replaced Twitter for me on that front!
